Week 3: Landscape Photography

As I was looking through Backpacker magazine, I realized they have really good landscape pictures so I decided to look online through their website for some photographers. I discovered Jeff Pang and I really enjoyed his landscape pictures. Here are a few:

The picture on the right was taken with a polarizer and the one on the left wasn't. I also thought this picture was a good example for the "rule" that jagged lines are more striking than curved ones.

Week 2: Landscape Photography

Using a tilt shift lens for landscape photos

A tilt-shift lens essentially allows you to take horizontal or vertical "slices" of your image and render them sharp, while the remainder of the image retains a dreamlike or blurred effect.

With landscape photography, a tilt shift lens offers an advantage. It gives you greater depth of field without having to stop down the lens to a smaller aperture.

"The advantage of a tilt/shift lens is that the front elements can be tilted to modify the plane of focus from the normal angle, which is perpendicular to the lens, to an angle that’s more or less than 90 degrees to the lens."

I found a photographer, Laurel Schultz, who uses the tilt-shift lens to create this dreamlike or blurred effect.

Week 1

In October, I decided to take a trip to Yellowstone when the government shut down was finally over. These are some of the pictures I took during my trip.
